Brief Insight: Hugo Gatica

Hello to all, my name is Hugo Gatica. I’m an up-and-coming artist, primarily in printmaking and photography, with an immense passion for the creative fields. I recently graduated Rutgers University with a bachelor’s in fine arts and a minor in creative writing. I often keep to myself in my studio, so whenever I’m not focused on writing or classes I’m usually working on my next piece.

I hope this doesn’t come off as egocentric, but I would like to share a bit more about the art world I’m in, so I’m added a few links if anyone is interested in checking out. They do better justice in describing me than in any way I could say myself.

My primary art website (WIP, not all of my work are uploaded yet): https://hgatica95.myportfolio.com/

An interview I recently took part in (provides more insight into me): https://www.frontlinearts.org/frontlineblog/hugogatica

The last gallery show I attended (it even includes a trailer of my showcased work!): https://www.artimpactinternational.org/chroma-artist-hugo-gatica

My sole passion isn’t just in visual arts, for as long as I can remember I’ve always been enamored with the world of writing. I spent countless hours as a child in my public library, absorbed in any book I was reading. There’s something about the way words can be woven and expressed, and I find writing a powerful and beautiful tool. I wanted to pursue a degree in one of my biggest motivators in life.

As to why I write? I write because I feel most like myself when I do. I have a lot of issues when it comes to self expression with my physical voice, so I often look towards writing and art making to say what’s on my mind. It allows for a lot of insight and introspection into my own mind and heart, learning new things about myself, putting things into perspective and allowing me to feel confident enough to talk with my voice once I feel I know what it is I want to say. I write because it’s an extension of who I am as a person.
